Minutes of CABTAS Annual General Meeting

The Canadian Bhutanese Association (CABTAS), Ottawa,  conducted its Annual General Meeting at 1560 Heathrington Rd. Ottawa, meeting the Quorum as specified in the By-law (4.03). The meeting was led by Barsha Magar under the chair of  Sudesh Gurung. The Emcee, after welcoming the members present in the meeting, introduced the existing board members and the area representatives. Mr. Sudesh Gurung, the President of CABTAS, presented the financial update of the year 2025. Next, the new names of the proposed Directors as decided by the previous ZOOM meeting held on January 10, 2025, were put on the floor for election. The members present in the meeting were asked to give the names of

contesting for the board of directors’ positions, but no new names were proposed from the members. Surprisingly, all five new candidates proposed for the board of Directors earlier were unanimously accepted by the members present in the annual general meeting. Thus, the formal voting procedure was scrapped and all the five new board of directors were declared as the new Directors with effect from January 17, 2026. The names of the new board of directors are as follows:

1.  Brian Khadka

2.  Aita Singh Rai

3.  Tula Ram Rai

4.  Hem Kumar Bajgai

5.  Manikala Gurung.

The area representatives were elected, representing their particular areas of residence. Brian Khadka, the new President of CABTAS, addressed the members on behalf of all the new board of directors thanking the former board members, and area representatives for their contributions and commitments given for the organization. Next, a quick review of CABTAS By-law, putting more emphasis on Membership was done by Brian Khadka.

Finally, the new President proposed the names of CABTAS Advisory Board, and all the names were unanimously approved by the members present in the general meeting. The names of CABTAS Advisory board are as follows:

1. Surendra Rai

2. Sudesh Gurung

3. Ganesh Thapa

4. Santa Man Rai

The Annual General Meeting was closed by the Emcee, extending thanks to all present in the meeting and congratulating the new board of directors, followed by coffee, snacks, and photo session.
